In our class of additive manufacturing, by group of 3 we have to find an object to print with a 3D printer and think about different stress manufacture.
We have chosen of small plane with interchangeable wings, unable to fly like paper plane. He is in 2 parts: wings and the base which is in 2 pieces.
We are going to analyze each part of the plane and see what stress could be a constraint.
Base analyze:
The 2 pieces of the base have a flat side so we don’t need a support for the printing, however we can print an undercoat in order to have not the object stick on the plate.
The problem we could have is the thickness of the pieces. At some places (circle in yellow on the picture) the width of some details are fine and could make bad aspect. We could change the nozzle at the exit of the molten plastic and put a nozzle with a fewer exit in order to have a better aspect.
Wings analyze:
The design of the wings is not problematic. This piece have a flat side so as the base we could just put an undercoat in order to not damage the piece.
Again as the base, the problem that we could have are esthetic points. If the nozzle is not enough accurate, some layer or vein could be not good printed. For avoid this problem we could modify the design of the piece.
To conclude, the assembly is not simple as it look like. Because of the small thickness, we have to be careful of the printing in order to not have pieces deform.
